Holy Trinity Lutheran Raised Over $10k for CROP Walk

March 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’m very excited that Holy Trinity Lutheran Church  raised over ten thousand dollars in the Conjeo Valley CROP Walk on Sunday March 8, 2009.  From what I’ve heard, Holy Trinity was the organization that raised the most amount of money and had the most walkers (96).  The total participation and money raised from all organizations used to feed the hungry and poor is not available at this time.

Thank You Thousand Oaks CROP Walkers!

March 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Thank you walkers, supporters and volunteers of the Conejo Valley CROP Walk in Thousand Oaks, CA. The much needed donations will help support the impoverished in the world in addition to supporting the needy in the community.

Our 12 member online team for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Thousand Oaks raised an amazing $3,770!  Again, thanks for taking the time to register on line and to participate in the walk.

This year there were three walks: a 3/4 mile senior route, 4.5 mile and the normal 6 mile route that started off California Luthern University and took us up Olsen Road to Moorpark Rd.  Once you go to the corner of Moorpark and Los Flores (Thousand Oaks High School), you could continue down Moorpark for the 6 mile route or down Los Flores for the shorter 4.5 mile track.

Both routes placed you back onto Los Arboles then up to Mt. Clef (or at Holy Trinity Lutheran) and back to the starting place.   The Senior route took a leisure stroll through the CLU campus.

My wife and I took the 4.5 mile route and decided by the time we got home that next year we need to take the senior route or at least do a lot more walking in the winter to stay in shape.

It’s hard to imaging that a 4 or 6 mile walk every day is just part of normal life for some people just to stay alive.  Our suffering and sore feet pale in comparison to what existence they have.

Holy Trinity CROP Walk Team members remain the number one online team for the Conjeo Valley CROP Walk.  Great Job!

Remember that it’s not important that we’re #1 — because it’s not about us — and if you can encourage friends of other churches and organizations to support the CROP Walk, the more we can help the impoverished in this area and throughout the world.

Keep up the good work and to encourage support, have them visit:

2009 Conejo Valley CROP Walk Kick Off

February 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, we had our annual CROP Walk kick off to help feed and shelter the hungry and homeless in the Conjeo Valley.

We don’t set monetary goals, but instead ask and pray for participation and support in the walk.  Last year the Conejo Valley CROP Walk raised over $50,000 — 25% stayed in the local community — to help with the hunger and poverty we face in this world.

Melissa Dugan, one of our Holy Trinity CROP Team Members summed it up perfectly:

This has been a difficult year for so many. People around the world must walk miles to access care for basic necessities such as food, clean water, health care, and schooling. People in our own neighborhoods are hungry, homeless, and hurting.

If you are reading this message, chances are that you are one of the fortunate ones – with a place to sleep at night, food to sustain you, and friends to comfort you. Think for a moment about what you have been given.

There is no donation too small to make a difference. We walk because they walk.

Blessings and peace,

Mel

Again, our goal is for participation.  With participation, there is awareness. With awareness there is hope.

Help Stop Hunger in Your Community

February 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Folks,

There are a lot of hungry people out there.  Homelessness is on the rise and I firmly believe that we need to help out the disadvantaged in our community.  It is our responsibility as stewards of this planet to help all in need.

Please consider helping the Church World Service by simply participating in the CROP Walk as a walker or sponsor.

Church World Service assists communities in responding to local hunger and disasters, resettles refugees, promotes fair national and international policies, provides educational resources, and offers opportunities to join a people-to-people network of local and global caring through participation in CROP Hunger Walks.

I know economic times are tough right now — and the number of homeless that stay at Holy Trinity Lutheran are ever increasing — so what ever you can do to help is appreciated.
